In the world of biking there is always a debate when it comes to purchasing motorcycle parts and especially when it comes to Harley-Davidson motorcycle parts which are very specialized since they bear the Harley brand name. It is a very difficult question to resolve as to whether a biker should buy OEM parts or aftermarket parts. The best way to decide this question is by evaluating one's bike and then deciding what is best for it. It also depends on the priorities of the biker. It depends on what you are looking for in your machine. Do you want just a replacement or are you looking to improve the performance as well as the features of the bike that you are riding? Also there are certain factors that must guide your decision regarding OEM parts or aftermarket parts.

What is your budget concerning the parts? Is the part that you are looking for, available in the market? Sometimes you might have to hit the aftermarket because the OEM might just not be available.

Firstly, for the lay biker, the term OEM might sound alien. It basically stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer parts. However this does not mean that the original manufacturer actually made them. The Harley-Davidson company like many others, doesn't manufacture its own parts, it gets the parts manufactured by independent companies and then these parts are brought to the Harley factories and the parts are all assembled together to make the bikes that are then released in the market. Thus the OEM parts are basically manufactured by the original company who had made them in the first place. So if you are buying Harley OEM parts then you are using the exact part that Harley had used while assembling your bike.

Harley Davidson OEM parts are freely available in the market and online as well. These are usually categorized according to the year in which your machine was released into the market. Parts are available from a s far back as 1941. So whether you have a Sportster, Road King or Fatboy, all the parts are available.

When you are using OEM parts for your Harley Davidson bike be careful of certain things. Get the parts installed by an authorized mechanic, otherwise if your bike is still within the guarantee period then your guarantee period gets invalidated. Also, never use aftermarket parts for your Harley incase it still is within the guarantee period because if you do not use OEM parts then your guarantee is revoked. Later on, if something goes wrong with your bike then you will none to blame but yourself. If you found this information helpful Please leave your comments. Thanks http://thebikersemporium.com

Am in need of a 2009 Road King Classic (Rear-Fender), was involved in an accident, someone forgot to stop at the Red-Lite ! I made a call to Harley Davidson factory, it will take (8-16 wks.), for a (Rear-Fender) for my bike, to be made, this time just seems to be outrageous amount of time for a part to be made for a bike that is less than 1 yr. old ! One would think that Harley would stock extra parts around in their factory, while production is being done, stock extra parts, can you imagine if this was Summer-Time, when I needed this Fender, one unhappy Harley Rider, sorry!
